We’ve left Paris to Verdun’s battlefields today.
We went through beautiful roads and scary monuments.
You can still feel the war over here.
It’s peaceful but there’s a really weird atmoshpere.
Too bad we only had a day and didn’t got anytime to visit the “Fort Vaux” where you can go for a tour with a guide explaining every details (it sounds really interesting).
One of them started to speak about History and told us there were around 80 000 soldiers, still lost in the forests around…(creepy!).
By the way, it’s a terrible feeling to be over there:
Along the roads, there are all these arrow signs saying “Village destroyed”, with nothing else than marble boards on the ground saying “There, were living 250 persons” or “School”, “house”…
Small chapels are standing in these areas, in the middle of nowhere, as memorials.
The Ossuaire de Douaumont (Charnelhouse) and it’s cemetery are really impressive too…
There is too much to say, and not enough words may be.
